Improving Glutathione Levels

Glutathione is a part of a critical detoxifying and antioxidant enzyme system. It is regarded as the MASTER antioxidant in the body. It aids in protecting the liver from toxic damage (i.e. cigarette smoke, ethanol, & overdoses of aspirin or acetaminophen), strengthens the immune system, and protects against oxidative (rusting) damage to tissues.

Glutathione must be in the reduced form to be active. Some manufacturers don’t indicate if their product is in the reduced form. The reduced form is cheaper but it is not metabolically active. Glutathione levels can be bolstered by taking supplements such as alpha lipoic acid, which is known to regenerate glutathione. Alpha lipoic acid also helps to regenerate vitamins C and E so that they remain active longer in your body.

Dietary sources include:

1. Raw vegetables
2. Wild caught fish
3. Red meat from grass fed cows
4. Fresh fruit
5. Asparagus
6. Avocado
7. Walnuts
